The opening day of the Value Jet Cup 2025 lived up to its billing with action-packed football, stunning goals, and intense battles across the pitch as all six teams got their campaigns underway.

Ikorodu City 1–0 Shooting Stars
The day began with a tight contest that was settled by an early strike from Joseph Arumala, handing Ikorodu City a massive three points in their first fixture.
Shooting Stars pressed hard for an equaliser but couldn’t find a way past Ikorodu’s resilient defence.
While it wasn’t the perfect day on the pitch for Coach Nurudeen Aweroro of Shooting Stars, the post-match atmosphere was lighthearted as he shared smiles and warm moments with his former side, Ikorodu City.

Remo Stars 2–1 Kwara United
Remo Stars wasted no time asserting their dominance. A slick one-two exchange between Adama Goita and Jerome Bonou set the stage for Bonou’s thunderous long-range strike that left goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso rooted to the spot.
Goita doubled the lead from the penalty spot after being fouled by Arinze Ogbona, making it 2–0.
Kwara United’s Babatunde Bright pulled one back with a composed finish, sparking hopes of a comeback — but Remo held firm to secure the win.

Rivers United 0–0 Abia Warriors
The final game of the day ended in a goalless draw far from lifeless. Both sides displayed defensive discipline and determination, cancelling each other out in a tense, tactical encounter.

Looking Ahead
The Value Jet Cup 2025 continues on Monday, August 11, 2025, with another round of fixtures as teams aim to stamp their authority early in the competition. With the table still wide open, every point will matter in the race for glory.
